Sincerely... Distracted

I've come to the conclusion that I am a terrible blogger! Everytime I sit down to post something I get distracted by something like this:

(insert happy baby noise here)

or this:

(insert sad baby cry here)

Yes, transformation is complete. I've officially lost the capacity to focus on one task at a time. But I wouldn't have it any other way, I love spending every day with Kambrie!

Kambrie Janae Butterworth

I think it's time I announced the birth of our sweet baby girl.

The day was Sunday, October 17th. By this time I was 8 days over due & was showing absolutely zero signs of labor starting on it's own. My anxieties getting the better of me, I had all but begged my doctor to enduce me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE at my last doctor's appointment. But he was going out of town for the weekend. So he scheduled me for Monday & assured me that if he ended up staying home he would call me & get things rolling.

As he promised, Dr Strebel called Saturday night & asked if I still "thought" I wanted to have a baby that weekend. Of course I did! What woman in my position wouldn't!?! So bright & early Sunday morning we were off to the hospital. We arrived at about 8 & they immediately started my I.V. with the pitocin, as well as an anti-biotic for strep B (So when you look at the pictures of me, just think of all that extra fluid being pumped into my body).

Then it was more waiting. Trav & I watched a movie & some NFL pregame show. At about 10 a.m. they broke my water, & the doctor wanted a monitor to be placed on the baby to watch her heart rate more easily. Long story short I was still only dialated to a 2, so they opted to wait until a little later in the day.

When 10:30 rolled around, one of our neighbors gave birth naturally to a healthy baby. Lets just say Trav was running to close the door to our room & I was in tears. I have all new respect for women who choose not to use any pain relief because this was the first time I ever truly felt afraid of what the next couple of hours could bring. The next time my nurse came in to check on me we asked when we could get the epidural.

So about 11:30 I got my epidural. Dr Skabelund was wonderful. Travis told me later that he had no idea I had super-human strength. I was holding his hands while the doctor prepped me, etc & I was completely unaware of how tight my grip was.

Once that was behind us, we both felt a lot better. However, our room was FREEZING!!! Actually, the nurses had offered to move us to another room at one point. I can't remember now why we hadn't accepted, but we didn't.

I got plenty of warm blankets so it wasn't all bad.

But poor Travis was as cold as my Popsicles.

My mom & sister, Jamie, came & went throughout the afternoon so Jamie made sure he got a jacket.

The rest of the afternoon was spent watching contractions on the monitor, football on TV & waiting. It's actually really cool to have the epidural because when I had the contractions, I could still feel them, the pain was just gone. This was especially intriguing to Travis & my dad when he stopped by. My dad stood watching the monitor for a good 15 minutes while he was there, letting me know when I was having a really strong one. So helpful;)

The Doctor came to see me about 4 to check my progress & I was at about a 5. At this point he told us the slow part was over & things would really start to pick up now. At 5:30 the nurse came in, checked & told us she would be back in 15 minutes to prep the room for delivery.

Our last photo as a family of 2!

I started pushing at 6 p.m. Watching the Washington Red Skins play the Indianapolis Colts between contractions (still loving the epidural). The doctor returned about 6:45 & they started giving me oxygen because they were concerned about my "old" placenta & whether or not the baby was getting enough oxygen. At 7:07 p.m. our beautiful baby arrived & started screaming immediately. She weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz and measured 21 inches long.

Introducing Baby Girl Butterworth! Travis only hesitated a second to leave me, because he was so excited to get closer to her & take her first pictures.

I think the first thing out of my mouth was, "Oh, she's so big." The nurse came & gave her to me the first time & all I could think about was how big she was. Was this really the same baby that had been inside me all this time? She cried & whimpered for the entire first hour of her life but I loved to hear her cry. It was so sad & sweet that I could only apologize to her, she was having such a bad day after all.

One Proud Daddy! I was one of those silly wives who wondered if the whole birth experience would totally gross my husband out. Safe to say my husband thought it was the coolest thing ever. He was totally fascinated by it all. Just one more thing that made it such an incredible experience.

In the end we have a perfectly healthy baby & I felt pretty good too, with no complications I was on the road to recovery right away. During the first hour of her life she was welcomed by ALL of our immediate family members. My parents were at the hospital waiting for her. Steve & Lorie came from Idaho Falls to meet her, knowing they wouldn't have another chance until Saturday. Their timing couldn't have been better, they arrived just after she was born.

The nurses were so patient. I loved my nurse. Deanne couldn't believe we would rather watch football than baseball (it was playoff season after all). She was my only nurse. I was so worried she would have to leave before the baby came. Her shift ended at 7 & she assured me that I would have a baby by then. She was pretty much right & she made sure everything was all taken care of before she left. I told her at one point that I thought she was an angel. She just smiled & said that she had the best job in the world, "who else gets to come to work & have a birthday party every day."

This will always be my favorite way to cuddle her :)

At about 8:30 we were settled into our room on the mother baby floor. The baby got her first bath, & then it was off to the nursery for a few minutes. Travis & I finally had a chance to talk just the 2 of us & the first item on the agenda was "what on earth are we going to name her?" For weeks we had gone to bed each night discussing this very topic & we never really came to a decision. Now after seeing her... we really weren't any closer.

I wish I had taken a picture of her that night when she came back from the nursery. She looked so peaceful & beautiful with a cute little pink & brown bow the nurse put on her head. And I felt bad that our poor baby still didn't have a name.

It was a long night, even though we had sent the baby to the nursery so we could sleep. Poor Travis was so tired & already worried about the upcoming week. That morning I woke up long before he did, thinking about a name, waiting for them to bring the baby back. By the time the nurse came in with the babe, I had decided. Travis woke up & asked me which one I was thinking about that morning. I told him Kambrie Janae (had to call my sister to look up different spellings for Janae, so we could decide which one we liked the best). Then I asked him what he was thinking... he was still thinking Emmri... but had no objections with my name. I think he was just relieved that I was willing to make the decision myself. Usually he just wants whatever I want. Maybe he'll name the next baby ;)

In a nutshell, it was the most incredible experience I have ever had. My sister-in-law Tashie told me later how strong the spirit was when she & Tyler came into the room to meet Kambrie the first time. I feel so incredibly blessed we had such a beautiful, healthy baby to bring home with us. I'm grateful everyday that I get to be a mother & a wife. I have always been grateful for my eternal family, but now that I have a family of my own I understand why it was so important for Travis & I to go to the temple. Late at night when I look at her sweet face, I'm grateful to know that she is ours forever. That any separation we may experience in this life is only temporary.

I don't mean to be cheesy but I feel pretty comfortable saying things like that because I know my audience includes only my closest family & friends. I have a testimony of Jesus Christ. I know my Heavenly Father loves me. I know he has sent a choice spirit to our home. I pray I will be able to teach her, as my parents taught me, to do what is right & endure to the end. I hope that Travis & I will always be good examples to her, but I know that she has so many other great examples around her also.

We were so excited & amazed that she had hair!

On our way home! I love how tiny she looks in her carseat.

For now, Kambrie has to share her room with her dad's very messy desk. Trav often faces the dilemma of wanting to spend his time at home with her & getting his homework done... sometimes he does both:)

Kind of a grumpy face but pictures with her eyes open are precious.

October 9th

Most Frequently asked question of 2010 = "When are you due?"

My Answer = "October 9th"

Well the long awaited day has finally arrived & I'm sure it will come & go with out our little bundle of joy. But it is still really exciting to be this far.

We haven't chosen a name yet, I guess we're still waiting to see her. We have a few names in mind, all 6 letters or less, I think with a last name as long as "Butterworth" it wouldn't be nice to give her anything longer than that.

We expect she'll be shy like Travis & I are/were growing up, due to the fact that she does not like to feel other people touching my tummy. She'll be jumping all over the place & as soon as she feels someone push back she immediately goes still like she's waiting for them to leave before she starts again. Yeah, a little frustrating for soon-to-be grandparents, aunts & uncles, who are just excited to meet her.

2 weeks ago at our doctor's appointment, Dr. Strebel was a little worried about me (you know high blood pressure, swelling, etc.) & anytime it appears that "mom" is not doing well they can't just assume that baby is fine. So we ended up going to Radiology that night for an ultrasound, he wanted them to do a biophysical profile on the baby. This checks thing like her lungs for "practice" breathing, the amount of amniotic fluid, size, etc. Then it was off to Labor & Delivery so they could monitor her heart rate for 2 hours (yes they were the longest 2 hours of Trav's life).

Here's one of the pictures we brought home with us. If you can't tell, this is her little face. Travis says she looks like "Big Baby" from Toy Story 3. But we both agree that she was much cuter watching her on the monitor. Sorry, Baby Girl, guess you're like your mom already, I've never been photogenic.

Well she passed her first test with flying colors! 10/10 :) That's my girl!

I'm sure we'll pay dearly for such an "entertaining" evening, but it's only money & there's peace of mind knowing that she's perfectly healthy.

As for me, Dr Strebel prescribed that I start my maternity leave ASAP, so I stopped working. This week at the doctor, my blood pressure was down, swelling was way down & consequently I had lost weight (love that). So far it's a relief not to be working & the waiting... continues, because I show no signs of going into labor right away.

As for Travis, he's busy as always. Working part time & taking a full load for his last semester at Utah State, he's working hard to stay on top of his school work so he can spend quality time with the baby & I when she arrives.

He couldn't be more excited to be a dad & of course, I love to listen to him talk about her & the things he looks forward to most about having her here.

Don't let the look on his face fool you, he just doesn't like when I'm taking pictures of him, He's now a pro at assembling baby furniture & gadgets. this would be the swing my co-workers gave me.

Last weekend, Steve & Lorie stopped by to drop off the Pack-n-Play for the baby. Soon as they were out the door, he was checking out that box... then saying things like "I wonder if these things are a pain to set up"... didn't take long & he had it all out of the box, just to "see how it worked."

I have had a few people ask for preg-o pictures. And I must say, I've done a pretty good job of avoiding the camera during my pregnancy, in fact I don't have any up-to-date pictures at all... but here's a few I do have:

July 2010
With my cute sister-in-law, Tashie (sorry Tash, you made the blog again).

To all who are currently pregnant or plan to be, BUY A MATERNITY SWIMSUIT! It's the cheapest swimsuit I've bought in about 15 years, also the most comfortable. I suggest looking for one that is gathered on the sides, it stretches right over your belly & fits good from beginning to end of pregnancy. Love it! You'll thank me when you get in the pool the first time, It's a relief for all your muscles.

August 2010
Our annual trip to Jackson. This year we convinced Tyler & Tashie to tag along, so glad they did.

Yeah... that's about it for pictures. Don't worry just because I don't have any, doesn't mean there aren't any, Jamie has a lot more than I do. I'm terrible about taking pictures.

That's the Baby-Update. All we have left to do now is wait. I finally packed my bag yesterday... decided tempting fate by being unprepared wasn't working. Hopefully this time next week I'll be posting pictures of the newest member of the family!

Tap Dancing

There has been so much going on at the Butterworth House these days. We both work all week long. Then every weekend ends up being like a mini-vacation for Trav & I because we are trying to make the most of our time together before he goes back to Idaho Falls.

Thank goodness I have the baby to think about while he is away, & she doesn't let me forget about her either. Lately it's felt like she must be dancing in there, because I feel these...

little feet dancing, ALL THE TIME.

In fact the only time they stop moving is when other people are around. What can I say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, she's a little shy.

We'll see what the next 8 weeks bring while we count down to her "estimated time of arrival."

More good news, this week is Trav's last full week of the internship. Only 1 more good-bye then life at our house will return to normal! I can't wait:)

Happy Birthday to Me!

What a crazy, exhausting week it has been! There are far too many details to bore you with here but it did end really well. Thank goodness Travis comes home every weekend. I miss him so much when he's gone. However this weekend, Trav had some things he wanted to do in Idaho Falls, so the plan was that I would come up & stay with him.

As it turns out this weekend just happened to include my Birthday, June 13th. I'm a lucky girl because my husband put a lot of thought into making this weekend special for me (with the help of his family). He must have known it was necessary since this is the first Birthday away from my mom & dad. Yes, I'm 24 years old but I am still a "momma's girl."

When we got to the Butterworth house Friday, Lorie & the girls had my gifts ready & waiting for me (crate paper & balloons are two of the things I remember my mom always doing for us on our birthdays growing up, so I loved it).

Trav took me to dinner that night (it was delicious!). And Saturday night we had cake & ice cream with the "fam" while I opened my gifts from Trav. He went all out, I love my gifts! A new key fob for my car & a nice, little video camera which will be so fun to have after we bring the baby home. Actually both gifts are perfect when planning for a baby.

It was such a nice relaxing weekend. "Thank you, thank you" to the Butterworths for celebrating with us. They even took a break from their family favorite, peanut butter & chocolate ice cream to have something I would like instead. That has got to be one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me;)

And an even bigger "Thank You!" to my sweet husband who makes me so happy. I love him more everyday, even the days I don't get to see him.

I was a little nervous driving home by myself today, mostly because I was expecting it to rain once I got to Cache Valley. Which it did. It rained all the way from Downey to Preston. However, there was the most beautiful rainbow that I could see for miles. It made me think of that primary song, "Heavenly Father Loves Me." I know it was there for everyone to enjoy along the way but I couldn't help thinking that he was reminding me of his love & it cheered me up. It's not very often I see one that glows like this one did, so I had to take a picture.

I know the pictures don't do it justice. There were other people who stopped off to the side of the road for the photo opp. I was anxious to get home... and I wasn't willing to get out in the rain. So my question is: is taking pictures, while driving, the same as texting? I hope not... oh well.

It was the perfect end to a crazy week & what I hope is a great beginning to a better one.

April, May & the Baby!

I can't believe another month has basically come & gone already. April went by in a flash & here we are almost June. Travis & I have so many wonderful blessings in our life right now in spite of some big challenges.

Easter Sunday, April 4th, I lost a very special man in my life. We were so shocked to loose my sweet Grandpa, Neil Reid, that day. I feel so blessed to be a part of his great legacy & a part of his story here on earth. His life blessed my own in so many ways. Grandpa loved all of "his girls," as he called his granddaughters, I was blessed to be one of them. I miss him. I'm so grateful for the knowledge I have of eternal families & I look forward to seeing him again because I miss his hugs.

Of course all I have is wedding pictures but this one just happens to be one of my favorites anyway.

May 10th, Travis started his summer internship in Idaho Falls. He's working as an Industrial Hygiene Intern & so far it hasn't been to exciting because there hasn't been a lot of work for him to do. But what he has done he really enjoys & we are so grateful for this opportunity for him. An internship is required for Graduation & it pays well. He works Monday thru Thursday, 10 hours a day. His parents agreed to let him live with them during the week, he has enjoyed spending more time with his family. As for me I'm still in Logan, working & counting the hours until he comes home again. We decided my job & our apartment were too good to loose, so rather than picking up & moving for 3 1/2 months we decided I would stay here & he comes home on the weekends.

We also celebrated our 3rd Anniversary May 10th. Travis made arrangements before he left for flowers to be delivered Monday, they were there waiting when I got home from work. And as luck would have it we did get to go to dinner together that night... at an A&W/Chevron in McCammon, Idaho. Travis had left a few essential items at home & needed me to bring them "half way." My sister, Jamie, was there too. She came with me so I wouldn't have to drive alone in the rain & the dark. I'm so glad she was willing to come with me that night. I've had a hard time the last 2 weeks not having Trav around, but Jamie & the rest of my family have done so much to help me. Don't know what I would do without them.

I can't believe how much we have changed in 3 years...

May 14th was a VERY exciting day for us. Trav's twin brother Tyler & his sweetheart, Tashie Robinson, were married in the Twin Falls, Idaho Temple. It was a beautiful day & I have never seen Tyler so happy. And well he should be! He is a lucky man to have such a special Bride. Travis & I enjoyed visiting with family & good friends all weekend. (but did I take any pictures? No, I don't know what I was thinking!)

Last but not least comes our most exciting news of all! Travis & I are expecting our first baby. I'm 20 weeks along, due October 9th & last Friday we had our Ultrasound. It's A GIRL!!! We are so excited to welcome this little one to our home. She's healthy & I feel great! I know I keep saying it but it's true every time, we are so blessed! This baby is the first grand-baby on both sides of our family, so we have 2 very excited grandmas-to-be. Just the beginning of so many changes & we couldn't be happier.

This is from our 1st ultrasound, at 13 weeks. I haven't put our newest pictures on the computer yet.

I had my first ultrasound the week before grandpa died. I'm so grateful I was able to share this exciting news with him because, to me, she's just one more of "his girls" & he would love her.

It really is the eternal plan of happiness. What a wise, loving Heavenly Father who gives us family & people to love whom we can be sealed to in his temples. We loose our loved ones, like grandpa, but also we welcome new members to our families, like Tashie & our baby. I so admire my Grandma & other members of my family as they find courage to move forward & "endure to the end." I love my Family.

Happy Birthday Jamie!

A Birthday wish for my very favorite Sister, that this year will be better than the last & that you will have more time to spend with the people you love most! (mostly Bradley)

This is one of my favorite pictures taken in Las Vegas after Jamie & Brad picked me up from the airport to spend a few days in Lake Havasu Arizona. I had been kinda discouraged so Jamie suggested I take this trip with them just to chill. It will always be a fun memory for me, mostly because just 1 month later my world changed forever when I met the love of my life.

Thanks Jame for always being such a great friend when I've needed one:) Love you Sis! Happy, Happy Birthday!
