Making the bed

Kambrie doesn't like to be alone. In fact she is usually not content unless... she can see someone. That means sitting in her chair, which is not tall enough to see over the bed, is not an option. Her highchair, as you saw from my previous post, is also out because... she's bored with it. So I just lay her on top of the covers at the foot of the bed & pull her around while I straighten the blankets.

I almost lost her in all the pillows.

The Highchair...

I love Kambrie's highchair. I started using it about a month ago, she sits in it while I make dinner, do dishes, etc.

Unfortunately, she's on to me & it doesn't last as long as it used to...

She kicks & kicks until she's so slouched I can't leave her that way.

Yeah, she reminds us who's boss on a regular basis...

Bed Time... I think...

Kambrie has been sleeping through the night now for several months. Really there were only about 2 weeks that she didn't & I think that was my fault. Once I chilled out & just let her sleep, establishing a morning routine, she was good to go.

Well, kind of. You see, she would sleep through the night once she FINALLY went to bed! Travis & I both agree that little girls going to bed a 11 pm or later is a little ridiculous. So we've been working on gradually transitioning her to an earlier bed time (sounds easy enough, but hard to do with a working mom).

She still loves to snuggle with us, so usually if we just hold her close, wrapped in a blankie, she'll nod right off.

Key word... Usually...

Why is it, that she always saves the sweetest smiles for bed time?

I am happy to report that we have improved a little. 10 pm is her current bed time. Yeah, we have a ways to go but it's a start. :)

Shopping with Kambrie

Last weekend I decided I needed an afternoon out, so Kambrie & I invited Jamie to come with us on Kam's first "Girl Day." We went to Layton, had Mimi's Cafe for lunch, went to the Mall & to Target (of course).

Kambrie was so good! We tried to keep her out of her seat whenever she was awake & that seemed to be exactly what she wanted.

She was mesmerized by all the lights in the Food Court...

and was relieved to see a familiar face in the mirror...

You rolled over for the first time last thursday. I wasn't there but Grandma Janeal & Aunt Jamie, said that you were not impressed. Needless to say, it will be a while before it happens again... although I'm not going to stop encouraging you...

A Butterworth Christmas

So, as usual, I totally missed blogging about Christmas. This year was Travis & I's 4th Christmas together, & that does not include the year we were dating. How time flies! We have so many wonderful memories & have started some fun traditions of our own.

However, this year truly was the best year yet because it was Kambrie's first Christmas.

We started out the season with the annual Christmas party at my Grandma Reid's. Every year Grandma gives each person $10 which we use to buy a gift for someone else at the party. It's always fun to see what $10 will buy:)

But the main event is the arrival of Santa Claus! For as long as I can remember, Grandma & Grandpa have invited Santa to our Holiday party.

This year we got to introduce Kambrie to Santa. Obviously I was a lot more excited than she was. She was only impressed as long as her binky was in her mouth.

Santa & Mrs. Claus are so cute every year, I was so excited to share my baby with them.

I love this picture of us opening Kambrie's gift, she looks so excited...

December was the last month of my maternity leave, so Kambrie & I tried to enjoy every day preparing for Christmas. We shopped together, cooked together & wrapped together.

Two days before Christmas, Travis came home to find the living room looking something like this...

But a houseful of goodies! Including, Trav's favorite, pumpkin pie, chocolate cream pie, peppermint kiss pretzels, Oreo balls, muddy buddies & a fun new multi-color Jello...

Kambrie was an angel that day! She was totally content to spend the afternoon in her swing (in the kitchen of course) while "mom" ran around getting things done.

She let me know when the fun was over...

And was oh, so glad when her daddy came home...

But before we left for Idaho Falls the next day, our Christmas prep was all done including wrapping the many gifts under the tree...

We had a great time in Idaho Falls with the Butterworths, then returned home Christmas day & spent a little time with the Reids. In summary, Kambrie had lots of new clothes & toys to enjoy. I just had to take a picture of her with her many, many presents so she can look back & see how loved she is...

Santa brought Kambrie a fun new toy as well...

She loves it!

The Final Chapter...

... of Harry Potter's epic adventures.

I confess, I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series!!! Travis & I saw the new movie Thanksgiving weekend & loved it. I loved it so much I went straight home and started reading the book.

I couldn't believe how much I had forgotten. The thing I love most about these books is the way she has linked them all together. What I mean is, when you read the 7th book you are reminded of events & secrets that were discovered in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd books, etc. Critical information for the reader as they uncover related mysteries at the end of the story.

I know there is a lot of hype around these books, and you wonder, how could these "larger than life, epic novels" ever live up to your expectations? Well, in my opinion, the movies may leave you disappointed but the books will not.

I'll use Travis as an example. Before we met, Travis was the typical Harry Potter Movie critic, who had seen the first movie & lost interest. Rolling his eyes at enthusiasts like myself (luckily our relationship is not based on fictitious stories of the wizarding world). He married me despite this flaw (thank goodness) but found himself cornered into accompanying me, along with my sister, Jamie & her husband, Brad, to the 5th movie; Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix. He liked it. On the way home we played a further intriguing game of "20 Questions" & I provided a little background information causing him to want to read the 6th book (Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince) & find out what happened next.

Wanting to share this interest of mine, I did better than that! I was able to secure the book on CD, so that we could enjoy it together. Which we did. Shortly afterward, the last book was released & Travis raced to finish it before I did. And so another devoted Harry Potter fan was "born."

Now, Harry Potter is something that we enjoy together. The following summer (2008) we read aloud the first 4 books together (we're too cheap to buy the books on CD): Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone, the Chamber of Secrets, the Prisoner of Azkaban, & the Goblet of Fire.

Tuesday, I accompanied Travis to Burley, Idaho & I took my book along to pass the time while he attended... a meeting. As we were driving home I was reading quietly (not normal for someone like me with motion sickness) when he asked if I would read out loud to him. I did & now we are enjoying Harry Potter together.

I know that sounds rather touching but don't be fooled! Now instead of reading whenever I want, I have to wait for him to come home from work to read the next chapter! And I'm getting very impatient!

There you have it. Now you know the reason behind this random post. I am merely passing the time...
