The Randoms...

So I was looking through pictures this morning, before Kambrie woke up & I stumbled across a few that just made me smile.

When we first moved here I spent a lot of time going through boxes, sorting & organizing.  You know the drill, 'cause we all do the same thing after a big move.  Anyway, Kam liked to help me...  A place for everything & everything in it's place.  At least she thought so...

You can see her favorite places to hide things!  Just made me smile & I thought I would share.  Love her so much & I can't believe she'll be 2 next month!

Easter

Just wanted to post a few pictures of Easter with Kambrie.  She loved it!

We started Easter weekend with the Primary Easter Egg Hunt at the church.  It was a little overwhelming for Kam, watching all the kids running all over the place.  But she caught on & gathered up eggs.  Some of the older girls showed her they were stuffed with stickers, erasers, stamps and even a little candy.  But, of course, I didn't take my camera.

That afternoon, after lunch & a nap, we had our own Easter Egg hunt in the yard.

Maybe next time we'll have to invite the neighbors... just look at all those eggs.

Finding the Treasure...

I love this picture!  She found Eleanor in her basket & was so excited she gave her a big squeeze.

Crayons... what a brave Easter Bunny...

Preparing for General Conference

I love General Conference!  I would compare it to a holiday but not for the reasons you might expect.  Yeah, it's nice to sleep in & veg on the couch.  It's also nice to have a break from church callings & responsibilities.  For me it's a relief not to have to "reverently" entertain a toddler during meetings.  I love General Conference because it refocuses me on living the gospel & directing me to work towards strengthening relationships, self-improvement & applying the teachings of Jesus Christ in my life.

I would say that my conference preparation started with a nudge from my mom, during our visit to Utah earlier this month.  I needed to pick a few things up from the "Distribution Center" & while we were there my mom renewed our subscription to the church magazines (I have a tendency to let those lapse... it's the penny-pincher in me, I always think, "I can just read it online...").  It's important to remember here that I have an 18 month old who helps herself to everything!  It's only natural then, that she felt these were just an addition to her collection of books.

How I love her!  Over the last 3 weeks she has loved these magazines, examined every picture over & over again.  A page she frequents is page 42 in "The Friend" which features the song, "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus."  She knows that by presenting this page to mom or dad they will sing it.  A few nights ago, Kam got up in the middle of the night.  She was hysterical!  Travis & I both tried & failed to sooth her which resulted in frazzled nerves & frustration for all three of us.  As a last result I rocked her, tickled her back & sang the song from "her magazine" (as I call it).  She relaxed & I was able to convince her that it was not morning & she could lay down in her bed to go back to sleep.

Another thing she loves to do with "her magazine" & the Ensign is flip through the pages & point to every-single-picture of President Monson.  She loves this game.  Last Monday, for "Family Home Evening," we watched the highlights from last conference.  Imagine her excitement when President Monson was on TV!  She ran to the screen pointing & turning back to make sure we saw him too.  As a new mom who has no clue what she's doing, I was ecstatic.  If I had been trying, I never would have succeeded in teaching her who the prophet is.  It just happened & I guess the spirit taught her.

If that was my high point, then next came my low.  The fourth Wednesday of the month Glendive's Library has what they call "Baby Bookworms" (It's actually a lady in our ward who leads it).  Mom's come with their babies or toddlers to sing songs, play learning games & read books.  Kam & I walked over.  She was very timid at first, but gradually became more & more comfortable in her surroundings.  That means she got busier & busier.  Any attempt I made to quiet her or ask her not to take pictures & books from the other kids was not well received... to say the least.  I guess you could say it was sensory overload, she was excited to play with the kids & read all kinds of books (but only the first page of course).

We tried taking a step back & left the room for a few minutes to regain control & talk about how to be nice, but that didn't last long.  When we went back in they had brought out balls to play with, she was fine as long as she had one.  I had just turned to talk to a couple of ladies that I knew when I heard the shrillest scream & turned to see my little drama queen standing in the middle of all the kids with no ball.  I didn't know what to do.  I immediately jumped to my feet scooped up the little diva, our things, excused ourselves, out the door, in the stroller & headed home.  I'm not sure if the door had even closed behind us when the tears started.  And they didn't stop all the way home.  The most predominant thought in my mind was, "I'm not cut out for this. How is it that I was the only mother there who had not taught their child how to behave in that social setting? Am I doing anything right?"  More than anything I was just so embarrassed.

How does any of this relate to Preparing for General Conference.  In a nutshell, "a humble person is teachable."  Nothing could have prepared me more to hear the messages in conference than this humbling experience.  There was an article in the Ensign this month about preparing for conference.  In it suggests the following:

  • Pray & fast to receive answers to your prayers through the words of the speakers.
  • Approach conference with specific questions in mind.
  • Complete all chores, shopping, and other errands before conference so you can focus on listening.
  • Get good rest the nights before conference so your mind will be ready to receive inspiration.
  • Take notes of the impressions promptings, and insights you receive.

I have several questions in mind this conference.  How can I be a better mother & teach my diva to love the Gospel?  How will we teach her what she needs to gain her own testimony?  How can I be a better wife & support for my husband?  How do I keep the faith & prepare for the future?

This Conference is a special treat because this is the first conference in nearly 5 years of marriage
that Travis &/or I have not had to work through the Saturday sessions of conference.  I'm so excited!  We are so blessed!

Now I'm off to the grocery store to buy ingredients for a few pinterest recipes that will keep me busy between sessions!  And later a basket-o-fun for Kam to see if we can keep her entertained... wish me luck!

My loves!

Our Home - Living Room

Thought I would share a few pics of our much improved living room!  There was nowhere to go but up really.

This isn't the best "before" picture but as you can see it was kind of a mish-mash of furnishings.

  •  The room has no ceiling light, so we brought in the lamp from our bedroom.
  • Glider chair from Kam's room.  Seating became an issue when we couldn't get the couch in the living room.
  • My parent's old storage room rug.  I wanted a rug for Kam to play on because the carpet hadn't been cleaned when we first moved in.
  • And we'll never forget those Mustard colored curtains left by the old man who lived here before us.  Bless his heart, but were ugly!
10 days ago (but who's counting), my parents came to visit.  It was like Christmas!  They brought so many fun things, new clothes & books for Kambrie, new clothes for me, photos for Trav's office, everything on my Sam's Club shopping list & most importantly new furnishings for the living room!

  • New Love Seat!
  • New rug (that we ordered before we ever moved)
  • New lamp in the corner
    • That I absolutely love because it puts off so much light (gift from Mom & Dad)
  • New Curtains & curtain rods
It all came together so well & it makes it feel like Our Home.

More pics to come of the other rooms of the house,  We're painting the kitchen this week so I'll try to get that up next & we'll just move our way back through the rest of the house.

Sleeping Beauty

Kam & I started the day early.  For a couple of girls who don't usually get up until about 8, 6:30 AM is kind of a shock to the system.  Kambrie woke up this morning when Travis did & was absolutely hysterical.  Very abnormal.  We have no idea why, I can only assume that she had been dreaming & they were very real.

She calmed down eventually and the morning went on as usual.

10:30 AM:
She was getting her daily dose of Winnie the Pooh, I was working in the Kitchen & soaking some laundry.  I put her in her chair to eat a banana & a granola bar.  Finished soaking, gathered it all up & ran downstairs to throw in the washer. Came back upstairs to find my little "Sleeping Beauty."

She insisted on taking her sock off... but only one.

Poor girl.  I love her!

Nothing more beautiful than a sleeping baby.

Greetings From Glendive, Montana

It's been a long time since I have done any blogging. A lot of exciting things have happened since my last post. We celebrated Kambrie's 1st Birthday, the holidays are always wonderful & 4 weeks ago we moved to Glendive, Montana.

The move couldn't have gone better. Travis orchestrated loading the truck & I have to say it was flawless! We got the biggest truck UHaul has & we filled it almost floor to ceiling all the way back to the door. From the time we closed the door in in Smithfield, Utah, to the time it opened again in Glendive, Montana, you'd never know that truck had traveled almost 800 miles without one single thing moving or shifting.

We moved into a small, 3 bedroom house in West Glendive. Everyone we talk to is AMAZED that we were able to find somewhere to live. All of the communities in this area are saturated with new move-ins because of the oil mining that is going on in the area. I have to remind myself just how grateful I am all the time because I would definitely describe our life here in Glendive as being less than ideal... Not only are we limited as far as the amenities the community provides but when I turn on the faucet the water is literally brown. Not only that, it also smells.

I know, we're living the dream, right? We actually live like half a block outside city limits and therefore we are not hooked up to city water. All the homes in the county use well water, which is what we have. Many people have filtration systems that take the sediment out of the water but our landlord has not invested in one yet. I would be more insistant that he put one in if he had not already spent a great deal on renovations so that we could move in. The first week we were here I cried every time I had to give Kambrie a bath.

But the water really is just fine when it comes to cleaning. My dishes & laundry come out clean, we never smell like the water after we bathe or anything like that but it's still... gross. So for now we drink & cook with bottled water. I also have a Pur water filter on the tap in the kitchen which does a great job too. So we're adjusting.

We, of course, moved here for Trav's new job. He is the Occupational Safety & Health Specialist in the Glendive District for the Montana Department of Transportation. He has some frustrations with the job... or the lack of training & direction that they have provided thus far. He often feels like he goes to work & has to make it up as he goes. But I think he is meeting all of their expectations. Everyone he works with loves him (surprised?... no) and I have every confidence that he will find his place & really enjoy the job. It sounds like a great job to me, he manages his own schedule & spends his time traveling throughout the district visiting the different shops. Today he is participating in a new employee training meeting which should be interesting since he has yet to have his "new employee orientation" himself.

Needless to say I am so proud of him & all that he is doing to provide for our family. Last year felt like an enormous stupor of thought & it was filled with discouragement & challenges, I'm so glad to be to this point in our lives. Glendive is the beginning of a great career for Travis & I am so happy for him.

As for me, I have the job I've always wanted. I'm a stay-at-home mom & I love it. However, it's not always the bee's knees, Kambrie & I don't see eye-to-eye... a lot, she's kind of opinionated. But I'm so grateful that I've been blessed with such a sweet little girl. I always knew that she came into our family at just the right time. She is the absolute joy of our lives! Her biggest thing lately is she wants to help with everything, cooking, painting (we are painting the entire house as part of our lease) laundry, grocery shopping, facebooking, you name it. She loves to play outside which we have been doing since it feels more like spring than winter. She really likes the Public Library, even though we can never stay long because she like to run around pulling random books off the shelves (just a little stressful for me). But I'm optimistic that she'll outgrow that phase.

We watch "Winnie the Pooh" & "Tangled" every single day without fail. She loves them & they are the only thing on TV that will hold her attention for more than 30 seconds. And occasionally she asks for "Toy Story" & "The Lion King." I've decided it's totally against the rules to buy annoying movies! Because if I have to watch them everyday, I have to like them too, and for now that is working out fine.

Finally, the ward here is wonderful. Leaving church that first sunday, Travis & I felt like celebrities. Everyone introduced themselves & expressed concern about us finding somewhere to live. It's one of the things that makes being a member of the church so wonderful, you walk in & everything is so familiar. We're hundreds of miles away from family & everything that we know but going to church makes me feel like we're not so far away. It's the comfort that you can only receive in knowing & having faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We love the ward even if they do call us "the Butterfields" most of the time.  Bless their hearts!

Travis & I have have been abundantly blessed. So even though living in Glendive is not ideal we are making the most of each day. Grateful for our little family of 3.

Happy Birthday Trav!

Happy Birthday to the love of my life!
And the sweetest daddy in the world! Excited to start another year with you!
